About Patient Care

The University of North Carolina’s Department of Psychiatry has as its primary mission the delivery of state-of-the-art, comprehensive clinical care to all of our patients – from the youngest child to our oldest citizens.  Our inpatient and outpatient services provide care for all psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders and women’s mood disorders.  In order to assure quality mental health care throughout the UNC School of Medicine, we actively collaborate with and consult to other departments.  Besides caring for patients at our facilities in the Triangle, the Department also provides consultation to physicians and patients throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.

Because of the depth and range of our clinical research programs, UNC’s Department of Psychiatry is also able to offer many patients access to specialized care and treatments that would otherwise not be available to them.  Participation in research may afford patients access to new treatments that can improve their lives.  Research also provides an avenue for patients to contribute to the betterment of the mental health of generations to come.
