Eating disorders, including anorexia and bulima nervosa, threaten the lives of more than 10 million people in the United States. Many will die, unable to find or afford the long-term treatment necessary to battle this devastating illness.

You can help to fight this needless loss by supporting the Eating Disorders Program at the University of North Carolina.

Compared with other life-threatening diseases, treatment of an eating disorder is especially challenging. Few treatment centers exist. The condition may be associated with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-injury, even suicide. Eating disorders can lead to major complications such as heart failure and osteoporosis.

Treatment is also complicated by the fact that few insurance companies provide adequate coverage.

Your financial commitment to the UNC Eating Disorders Program can help make a powerful difference in combating eating disorders. Together we can save lives.
