Summary
Statement:
Dr. John Dougherty is the Director
of the Greenville TEACCH Center, a
comprehensive regional autism program
serving twenty-seven counties in northeastern
North Carolina. The Center provides
diagnostic, treatment and consultation
for persons with autism spectrum disorders
and their families. John also trains
professional and para-paraprofessional
educators, social service personnel
and other health care service providers
in the region; and provides rotations
and internships to the Departments
of Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Psychology,
Special Education and Child Development/Family
Relations at East Carolina University.
John also works very closely with
colleagues in northern Europe providing:
(1) consultation to Boards of Directors,
Advisory Boards, program administrators,
psychological and educational teams,
in-patient and out-patient psychiatric
teams, training teams, and direct
service staff, (2) training of staff
in their home country and the Greenville
TEACCH Center, (3) lectures on TEACCH
as a program model, assessment, diagnosis,
educational issues, family concerns
and interventions, general clinical
intervention, professional issues,
service coordination, management and
collaboration within teams, and (4)
media presentations.
