Statement
Dr. Curtis joined
the UNC faculty in 1954 following
his residency, initially serving as
Dr. Ham's Executive Assistant. In
the department Dr. Curtis has served
in a number of administrative positions
including thirteen years as outpatient
clinic Director, Vice Chairman during
Dr. Lipton's term, acting Chair and
two terms as Chair. His clinical and
teaching responsibilities remain with
the Clinic, the Crisis and Geropspychiatry
inpatient units.
A
distinguished life fellow in the American
Psychiatric Association, Dr. Curtis
has served as Secretary and subsequently
President of its NC District Branch.
He served as Chairman of the Committee
on Therapeutic Care of the Group For
the Advancement of Psychiatry. He
was appointed to the NC Mental Health
Commission by two separate governors
serving a number of years on that
body.
