The STEP Outpatient clinic provides a variety of services for individuals
who are living in the community. Each patient who is referred to
the clinic is assigned to a team that is led by one of our attending
psychiatrists. The primary service provider is a psychiatric resident,
who has the support of the attending psychiatrist and a multidisciplinary
team that includes clinical social workers, occupational therapists,
and recreation therapists. Services available in the clinic include:
- State-of-the-art pharmacological management
- Individual and group psychotherapy for assistance in coping
with mental illness, decreasing social isolation, and improving
social skills
- Case management to assist individuals in accessing community
resources and to improve quality of life through housing, education,
employment, and social networks
- Family psychoeducation to increase knowledge of psychotic disorders,
provide support and develop practical skills to assist in coping
with the mental illness
- Individual and group recreational therapy to improve physical
health and well-being, decrease social isolation, develop more
effective social and cognitive skills, integrate with the community,
and enhance quality of life
- Individual and group occupational therapy addressing specific
problem areas such as money management, job issues, problem-solving
and decision-making in order to increase functional levels in
the community
