Links & Resources

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) - This web page contains links for many mental illnesses and resources for consumers, families, and caregivers. Especially useful is the contact information for local (statewide) AMI chapters. NAMI focuses on peer support groups and provides information on programs, policies, and laws relating to mental illness and organized campaigns to change them.

National Mental Health Association - This Web page contains contact information on national, state, and local advocacy initiatives. The Mental Health Association focuses on citizen advocacy for overcoming mental illness and is an especially good resource for information on programs, policies and laws relating to mental illness and organized campaigns to change them.

British Columbia Friends of Schizophrenia Society - This is a very good Web page on schizophrenia with particularly good advice for families and friends of those with schizophrenia. Its major drawback is that it is published by a Canadian group, thus healthcare information is based on Canadian healthcare systems and may differ from American healthcare systems, including medications approved for use.

The EPPIC webpage for information to help family or friends of those living with schizophrenia - Another good reference Web page for families and friends, this one is based out of Australia. The same caveats about differences in culture and healthcare systems apply to this page as to the British Columbian page listed above.

This page of stories by individuals living with schizophrenia provides insight into the illness and personal perspectives on illness and recovery.

Psychiatry On-Line: The International Journal of Psychiatry This webpage is a quick way to browse recent research in schizophrenia and other psychiatric specialties.

Successful Schizophrenia Homepage - for an alternative view of psychiatric treatment of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.
